Is it possible to start fresh on a used canvas?

Hi, I started an acrylic painting a few years ago that I never finished. I'd like to know if it's possible to reuse the canvas to start fresh with something new. And if so, how? Do I need to paint over it all with something? I don't know if it matters or not but the colors on it right now are mainly light to medium shades of blue and the darkest is a hunter green. Anyhow, any tips you have I'd appreciate. (By the way, in case you're wondering why I don't just toss it and buy a new canvas...I'm unemployed and strapped for cash. I'm going a little stir crazy and that's why I feel the need to get out the paints and do something.) Thanks! Lisa

Hi, sorry it took so long to get back to you.. If you haven't done something with it, my advice would be to paint the whole thing white. But it is to my understanding that acrylic paint is water based and comes off with water and soap. But I have never tried to get it off a canvas. Maybe just try a very small peice of the canvas on its corner to see if it will come off that way. If not, you had better buy a bottle of white. Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help, but thanks for the question. And good luck.
